Tapio Palokangas received his D.Phil. degree in 1985 at Oxford (U.K.) and in 1993 became Professor of International Economics at the University of Helsinki. In 2000 Cambridge University Press published his book "Labour Unions, Public Policy, and Economic Growth." In 2005 he was co-editor of the book "Growth, Trade and Economic Institutions" for Springer Verlag, and in 2007 co-editor ofthe book "Stochastic Economic Dynamics" for Copenhagen Business School Press. His other publications include articles in Economica, European Journal of Political Economy, German Economic Review, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics, Journal of Population Economics, Labour, Labour Economics, Oxford Economic Papers, and Scandinavian Journal of Economics. He is Associate Editor of both European Economic Review and Economics-ejournal.
Dr. Palokangas visited IIASA in 2005 for a workshop on economic growth. He has subsequently returned to the institute once a year to work as an academic visitor. His main interests associated with IIASA focus on optimal control theory and differential games with applications to R&D and economic growth.
