Hans Benzinger joined the Atmospheric Pollution and Economic Development Program in February 2007 to conduct the scientific coordination of the EC4MACS Project funded by the EU's LIFE program.
Before joining IIASA, Mr. Benzinger worked for more than four years at the Government Office for the West Midlands in Birmingham/UK as a member of the European Secretariat. He was responsible for the appraisal, accompanying, and the monitoring of projects funded by European Structural Funds (ERDF and ESF), which are targeted at regenerating some of the most challenged urban and rural areas of the West Midlands, and providing support for upskilling and retraining its workforce.
In the years 1991 to 1997, Mr. Benzinger was involved in the financial administration of programs targeted at SME development in Eastern Germany, which where managed by VDI (German Engineer's Association) and later in several Environmental Support Programs for SMEs in the region of Berlin, managed by B.&S.U on behalf of the Berlin Senate. Also at B.&S.U, from 1997 to 2000, he was the scientific coordinator for energy and environment related projects funded by various EU transnational cooperation programs, such as FP5, SAVE II, LIFE II, and INTERREG IIC.
Mr. Benzinger holds a degree in business administration and studied environmental management at the Fachhochschule für Wirtschaft Berlin and has a master's degree in European studies from Birmingham University.
