StreamPlan 1.0

Spreadsheet Tool for River Environmental Assessment Management and Planning, Version 1.0
StreamPlan was created as an easy-to-use software system for detailed policy analysis of alternative water quality management
strategies at a river basin level. These strategies include uniform emission reduction and effluent standard based
strategies, ambient water quality criteria and least-cost strategies, total emission reduction under
minimized costs, mixed strategies, local and regional policies, and strategies with economic instruments.
A distinction feature of StreamPlan is the integration of a detailed model of wastewater generation at the
municipal level with water quality model and policy analysis tools at a river basin scale. StreamPlan further
demonstrates the potential for exploiting the capabilities of a modern spreadsheet packages in developing
applications. Ease of use is heightened by the power and familiarity of spreadsheet operations.
Databases and models in workbooks and worksheets are integrated with programming language provided by the
spreadsheet.
StreamPlan was developed at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
The team of developers was led by Professor
László Somlyódy (Hungary). Other team members were:
