Transitions to New Technologies

More than ever, new technologies are demonstrating their potential for transforming society. IIASA's Transitions to New Technologies (TNT) Program, launched at the end of January 2000, is concentrating on innovations in the fields of information, communication, transportation and in energy production.

The program is analyzing possible diffusion patterns and interlinkanges among cutting-edge technologies as well as the economic and societal impacts that are likely to result if they are widely adopted. In this context, TNT will investigate how various combinations of new technologies might fundamentally affect human activities, and the institutional and organizational changes that would result.
