In our analyses of rural and regional development we will analyze six major dimensions by asking certain analytical questions:
What is the current situation in each of these dimensions, as measured by certain development indicators (such as a human development index, an economic development index, an environmental protection index, etc.)? In particular, we are interested in the spatial patterns of development.
What are the future trends in each of these sectors?
How does each dimension affect overall rural / regional development? In other words: what is the relevance of each sector?
How good is our empirical basis?
What can be done to promote development in each of the dimensions? This is the question in which politicians are most interested.
And finally, what would it cost to implement these development measures in the various sectors?
