| The number of granted patents
is an even better indicator of innovative strength. Again, Guangdong
province is by far leading all other regions of China. There are
almost twice as many successful patent applications in Guangdong as in
Zhejiang - the province with the second largest number of granted
patents. Surprisingly, Shanghai and Beijing reached only place 5 and 6
in this province ranking of successful patent applications.
