Areas affected by flooding and draught in % of cultivated land, 2001 [sorted]
Flooding Draught

Source: China Statistical Yearbook, 2002, Table 12-27
Note: For Chongqing no data available.
Natural disasters, such as flooding and draught are very unevenly distributed in China. This figure gives the percentages of cultivated land affected by flooding and draught in 2001. At least during this year, flooding (orange bars) affected much smaller areas of cultivated land than draught (red bars). In 2001, cultivated areas in Jilin, Shanxi, and Hubei were most seriously hit by draught. Please note that the extent of flooding and draught can vary greatly between years.
