| Can I
define my own indices? |
|

|
|
Certainly! This is one of
the main functions of the RAPS tool. |
|
The software includes
special modules to browse, filter, sort, and select variables from the
database that can be combined into indices. |
|
Each variable in an index
has its own weighing factor and positive or negative sign, in order to
determine a positive or negative contribution to the index. One can
easily add or remove variables from an index and recalculate and
visualize the results. This makes it very easy to develop specialized
indices for certain analyses, such as a "Water Resources Index" or a
"Water Consumption Efficiency Index." |
|
Moreover, it is possible
to combine various specialized indices into one composite index.
For instance, one might combine a "Human Development Index," a "Economic
Development Index" and a "Natural Resource Index" into an "Overall
Development Index." Of course, the contribution of each individual index
to the composite index can have a weighing factor and a positive or
negative sign. |
