Susanne Hanger joined IIASA's Risk, Policy and Vulnerability Program at the beginning of 2010 to work on climate change adaptation in the European Union. Since March 2011, she is also a PhD candidate at the Institute for Environmental Studies at the Free University in Amsterdam. Her PhD studies focus on regional aspects of burden-sharing for adaptation. Until 2009, Ms. Hanger studied geography and romance languages at the University of Vienna, specializing in regional development and EU policy with a particular interest in Central and Eastern Europe.
