Problems in downloading the PDE models from
this CD-ROM or the IIASA website?
The process is exactly the same regardless of whether you download
from this CD-ROM or the IIASA website ().
When you click on the model file name in Internet Explorer you should
receive an operation window named "File download". Choose
the option "Save file to disk" and click OK. When you
click on the model file name in Netscape Communicator you may get
a new Web page into which the program tries to read the file (without
success). To download please click on the file name with the RIGHT
mouse button and choose "Save link as..." and choose the
location to which you wish the file saved.
This information is valid for the enclosed CSV data files as well.
Vensim Model Reader installation problems?
Visit either
on this CD-ROM or the official Web site.
Problems in running the PDE model?
At the left menu bar you will find a link called "Run the
PDE models". There you will find all the necessary information
concerning supporting software, including how and where to download
it and the User's Manual.
Important: The model data file with the suffix VDF and the model
file with the suffix VMF must be placed in the SAME FOLDER on your
computer! You will not be able to run the PDE models if the supporting
files are located in different folders.
Problems in viewing or downloading PDF documents?
(a) If you want to save a PDF document on your hard disk, click
on the icon with the right mouse button. In the operation window
click on either "Save target as..." (Internet Explorer)
or "Save link as..." (Netscape Communicator). Then choose
the location where you want to save the document.
(b) To view PDF documents you need Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is
a freely distributable software that lets you view and print. Please
go to the
Adobe Acrobat Reader Web site to download the most recent version
suitable to your platform.

Printing problems?
(a) Part of the text is cut off at the right margin on your printout.
There are several ways to deal with this problem. For instance:
- Go to "File>Page Setup" and change the paper margins;
or
- Go to "File>Print", then in the print window to
"Property>Advanced" and change the "Scaling"
from 100% to 90% or if necessary below 90%; or
- Go to "File>Print", then in the print window to
"Property>Page Setup" and change the "Orientation"
from "Portrait" to "'Landscape".
(b) You want to print with background colors in Internet Explorer?
- The default setup of Internet Explorer prints Web sites without
the background color to save ink. If you want printouts with background
color, do the following. In the menu of Internet Explorer click
on:
Tools>Internet options>Advanced>Printing>and mark
"Print background and images".
Problems in reading on-line?
The font size might be too small to read on the screen. The
rule is: the higher the screen resolution, the smaller the letters.
Just go to:
- Internet Explorer: "View>Text Size" and change
it according to your wishes.
- Netscape Communicator: "View>Increase Font" and
repeat it as often as necessary.
