INDIA-IIASA Training Workshop on Mathematical Modeling
February 23-27, 2009, New Delhi, India. Workshop Objectives: The primary objective of this workshop was to educate and train Indian scientists, engineers, researchers and policy makers in the field of mathematical modeling of real life problems in their respective areas of work. The workshop also focused on how modeling can help in policy analysis, and how to construct and to apply mathematical models of complex real world situations for supporting decision making. Participants & activities: During five days, 30 participants from 16 different Indian organizations attended the series of lectures on methodology of mathematical modeling and applications in environment, economy, and policy-making. Moreover, to facilitate active participation, the workshop included also hands-on sessions on interactive multi-criteria analysis and on model development as well as brainstorming and questions and answers sessions. Pictures...Recommendations: It was the first attempt to organize such a form of capacity building. Both the participants and the organizers concluded that the workshop was very successful. There was a high demand for participation but the capacity of the workshop was limited to 30 participants in order to enable active participation. Given the demand for, and the successful outcome of the workshop, it was agreed to organize another workshop on this topic in the near future. Moreover, there is also a demand for domain specific modeling workshops, especially for land-use, agriculture, forestry, water, air pollution, and biodiversity; therefore one needs to explore if and how this demand can be met. Organizers: The workshop was organized jointly by:
The workshop was hosted by the National Institute of Science Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS), New Delhi, India. More information is available in the workshop announcement. For more information, please visit the workshop site at NISTADS. Responsible for this page: Amalia Priyatna |
