The International
Institute for Applied Systems Analysis is a nongovernmental research
organization located in Austria. The institute conducts interdisciplinary
scientific studies on environmental, economic, technological and
social issues in the context of human dimensions of global change.
It is sponsored by its National Member Organizations in Asia, Europe,
and North America.
In their study
of environmental, economic, technological, and social developments,
IIASA researchers generate methods and tools useful to both decision
makers and the scientific community. The work is based on original
state-of-the-art methodologies and analytical approaches that link
a variety of natural science and social science disciplines. Since
its inception in 1972, IIASA has been the site of successful international
scientific collaboration on areas of concern to all advanced societies,
such as energy, water, environment, risk, and human settlement.

The Russian
Academy of Sciences is Russia's major center of fundamental research
into natural and social sciences, technology, and humanities. It
is a self-governed organization of scientists, among which are members,
associates, and other scholars and specialists.
Throughout
its history, since the beginning of the 18th century, the Academy's
activities have been closely connected with the development of education,
economy, and the culture of Russia, and have contributed greatly
to world science. The Academy has always fostered and maintained
scientific contacts with both the institutions and scholars of other
countries and has actively participated in the research of global
problems.
