Technical Description
The Forest State Account (FSA) data provides the country-wide forest inventory information initially collected for the Federal Forest Service of Russia forestry enterprises (lesxoz). Before using this database, it is useful to become familiar with the basic divisions of Russian forest land. The inventory data describes the aggregated forest resources and the management activities carried out by the land owner. The description is divided into 13 different tables according to the following outline: Forestry landuse ; Species distribution; Functional landuse; Stand density and site indices; Growing stock; Area and stock change; Forest restoration; Forest fire protection; Restocking change; Tapping; Transport facilities; Forest exploration; Thinning and sanitation; and Drainage.
The inventory description is present in the IIASA database for 1993, and aggregated to ecological region.

The forestry enterprise coverage contains the boundaries of: (a) the forestry enterprises of the Federal Forest Service of Russia; (b) the ecological regions; and (c) administrative boundaries. The map was compiled on the base of a topographic map at the scale of 1:1 Million, and the boundaries of the shore lines and country boundaries were aligned with the Digital Chart of the World. The polygon attribute information contains the name and the identifier of the forestry enterprise used by the Federal Forest Service, the ecological region polygon identifier and the administrative polygon identifier.

The insects coverage was created by joining a database on infestation probability to the administrative oblast coverage. Data exists for a total of nine insects.
