This
section of the CD-ROM provides various data describing the use of land
resources in Russia, of which agriculture and forestry are most widely
practiced. Land endowment is considered from two perspectives: the first
falls under traditional land-use analysis and describes land exploitation
to produce commodities or benefits for consumption or sale (this information
is documented in statistical terms and is a socioeconomic driver of land
resources development); the second identifies land and soil degradation
and views the results of land use from an environmental perspective. Environmental
aspects are currently treated in the traditional socioeconomic cost-benefit
analysis, which is insufficient. There is a great potential for better
localization of land use practices in Russia, and the data in this land
endowment section could help to put this into practice.
