Johannes Schmidt presented a study on fossil fuel substitution of biofuels compared to bioelectricity production for electric cars in Austria with impact on land use and greenhouse gas emissions at the World Renewable Energy Congress, in Linköping, Sweden, 8-13 May 2011.

Elisabeth Wetterlund recieved the Mikhalevich Award for her work on "Optimal Localisation of Biofuel Production on a European Scale" during the YSSP 2010. The award provides financial support for Elisabeth to return to IIASA for an additional three month period of research.
