Software concept
At a later stage in the project we will try to develop a software system for decision and planning support focused on rural development. It will incorporate results from the comparative spatial analyses and from our case studies, which we are currently conducting.
Currently, we are designing various structural components for this Rural Development Model. In early 2002 we will start to implement these components in program code (C++ or Delphi 6) and we hope to have a prototype ready by the end of 2002.
Most likely this software will consist of three modules (see figure):
A module for describing the current situation in the development region (NUTS3-Level), using statistical indicators from five major dimensions (human, economic, political dimensions, resources & environment, technology).
A procedure to generate and select development scenarios that are appropriate for the specific condition of this development area. The scenarios represent different development objectives.
A procedure to generate and select a specific intervention strategy (development measures). Only those measures should be generated by the system that can (at least in principle) achieve the selected development objectives.
