This chart illustrates the very strong aging among farm managers in
most countries of the European Union. Aging among the agricultural
population is much stronger than in the non-agricultural population.
Almost two thirds (64%) of
all farmers in Italy and Portugal are older than 55 years. More than
one third (36%) of all farmers in Italy are even older than 65
years. This aging process among farm managers is much
stronger than in the overall population. Among farmers in the
European Union 26% are age 65 and older - among the general
population in the EU the percentage is just 15.8%.
