This chart illustrates the age distribution in the population and among farm managers.
In Portugal, Italy, and Greece more than 30% of the farmers are older than 65 years; by comparison only between 14% and 17% of the overall population in these countries is 65 years and over.
Surprisingly, the percentage of all farm managers in Germany, Finland, and Austria who are age 65+ is lower than in the population! Again, this illustrates the great diversity of demographic conditions in the rural areas of Europe.
