According to this FAO survey, Italy has by far the highest pesticide consumption per hectare of arable land; it is about 6 times higher than in Austria. A high consumption of pesticides was also reported from Portugal and from the Netherlands. Finland and the Baltic States reported the lowest consumption of pesticides per hectare of arable land.
