Note:

This is a list of unique landscapes and natural environments in Europe. It was extracted from the World Heritage List, that was established under terms of The Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage adopted in November 1972 at the 17th General Conference of UNESCO. Some rural areas of outstanding beauty, unique geomorphology, or great diversity of plant and animal species have become part of our cultural heritage, such as the Isle of Ibiza, the Wachau in Austria, or the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia. Poets have written books about them, painters have visited them to get inspiration, scientists have studied their fauna and flora - and above all - tourists have invaded them by the millions for pleasure and recreation.
