Multiple functions of rural areas

Selection Criteria
In cooperation with several ERD Focus Groups we will conduct 40 to 50 case studies of innovative rural development initiatives in Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe.
We will select development initiatives according to the following criteria:
The initiative should be a "bottom-up" effort from a rural area;
it should be based on innovation (we are looking for new ideas for rural development);
the initiative should involve small- to medium-scale investment (in the range of a LEADER-type project);
it should be promoted by one particular person or group of people (we are interested in rural entrepreneurs);
the financing of the project should not be based primarily on public transfers (there should be private investment); and finally
the initiative should have created permanent jobs.
Of course, it would be unrealistic to expect that the selected rural development initiatives would meet all of these criteria simultaneously. However, we will try to find projects that meet at least some of these criteria. In particular, we are searching for projects that try to implement really new ideas for rural development.

Please note: We are still looking for additional projects. So if you are interested to collaborate, do not hesitate to contact us.
