Global c02 emissions in six scenarios.

In 1998, the Energy Program completed a five-year joint study with the World Energy Council (WEC). The study analyzed six alternative global energy scenarios extending to 2100. The scenarios cover a wide range

  • from a tremendous expansion of coal production to strict limits,
  • from a phase-out of nuclear energy to a substantial increase,
  • and from carbon emissions in 2100 that are only one-third of 1990 levels to increases by more than a factor of three.

The 20-page summary paper and interactive database contains the study's most important numerical assumptions and results.

The final report can be ordered from Cambridge University Press. A 299-page book, it is available in both paperback and hardback editions. Ordering information.

A CD-ROM summary uses colorful, animated graphics to communicate the study's highlights in a way understandable to non-energy specialists. The CD-ROM, which includes a five-minute guided tour of key results, allows users to peruse all aspects of the study in any order preferred .
