The YSSP Team warmly welcomes you to IIASA as a participant of the 2009 Young Scientists Summer. We will be hosting 53 participants from 19 countries. This dedicated web site will keep you informed before your arrival at IIASA about relevant activities and events, including the summer scientific and social program. Information on IIASA support services and general information to help you during your first few days in Austria is also given. Please check the website at regular intervals for new announcements. We expect you to arrive at IIASA on Tuesday 2nd June at 9:00 for an informal get-together with the YSSP Team and the Head of Human Resources. Introduction to your supervisor and other program staff will also take place during that morning. The Official Opening of the Program by IIASA's Director, Professor Detlof von Winterfeldt, will take place on June 2 at 14:00. On the evening of 2nd June you are all invited to a Heuriger (wine tavern). Detailed briefings by staff from the Human Resources Department will be given on 3 June. Library staff will provide an overview of their services sometime during the first weeks of the program. Key dates to note in your calendars are 5 June for the Introductory Seminar; 8/9 July for the Mid-Term Progress Review and 24/25 August for the Late Summer Workshop. The Awards Ceremony/ Farewell Dinner Dance will take place during the last week of the program. You will be receiving "A Calendar of Events" within the next few weeks. This booklet will provide you with a detailed overview of plans for the opening days, the scientific program and social events. A list of 2008 participants can be viewed here. Maybe you want to contact someone from your home country for some hints and tips about planning for the summer. You are required to have medical insurance for the duration of your stay at IIASA. You should either make provisions for this in your home country or you will be expected to join the IIASA medical scheme. It is also important that you take note of the information provided on the General Information web page about ticks. Responsible for this page: Barbara Hauser |
