Atmospheric Pollution and Economic Development (APD) Program

 

 

Background

The Atmospheric Pollution and Economic Development (APD) Program aims to employ IIASA's expertise in applied interdisciplinary research to develop innovative modeling tools to identify strategies to protect the local, regional, and global atmosphere while imposing the least burden on the economic development. IIASA's work will bring together geo-physical and economic aspects of pollution control into one assessment framework and implement it – together with a network of collaborators - for practical policy analyses in different regions of the world.
In order to carry out its work, the APD Program is recruiting a
Scientific Coordinator.

Main Duties and Responsibilitiess

  • Coordinating European Research projects and including project and financial management, documentation, and reporting to the EU
    • Budgetary planning of EU projects and provision of documents and information to external auditors
    • Preparing project proposals
    • Organizing project meetings, seminars and international congresses
  • Database development of the Program’s RAINS-model
  • Responsible for the Program’s website, including maintenance and further development

Background and Qualifications

  • Experience in finance administration
  • Knowledge of funding mechanisms, budget and accounting principles of the EU Framework Programme and in particular of the LIFE Programme
  • High level of computer literacy (Databases, Excel and Word, HTML and other Website techniques)
  • Good judgment, initiative, and high sense of responsibility
  • Experience in an international organization desirable
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent knowledge of English, oral and written

Appointment Terms

The successful candidate will be offered a one-year, fixed-term contract with provisions for extension, beginning as soon as possible. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. It is exempt from taxation in Austria, but subject to the principle of income aggregation. Preference will be given to applicants who are nationals of IIASA member countries.
